I work at a comedy club and we feature pretty big headliners each weekend. It's pretty cool if you are a fan of stand up. I like to laugh, so it works out.
Some of my favorite comedians include Maria Bamford, Louis CK, Chris D'Elia, Eugene Mirman, Bryan Callen, Jim Bruer, Iliza Schlesinger, and Angela Johnson.
I noticed a few new specials on Netflix recently. Today, I indulged.
Todd Barry: The Crowd Work Tour. I saw Todd Barry a few months ago with my dad at the Comedy Cellar in New York. Barry is terrific, he's pretty sarcastic and biting in his observations. His new special is different because it's entirely comprised of spontaneous crowd work from a few stops along his short tour.
Crowd work is tough. You need the right crowd and the right people in the right places. I've seen it kill, I've seen it die. Barry is great. 4/5
Eugene Mirman: A Vegan on his way to the Complain Store
You might recognize Eugene Mirman's voice from Bob's Burgers.
Eugene is so funny. He's a bit of a misfit so he tells stories of messing with people (in fairly non-offensive, playful, and benign ways) and brings along items to show the audience, such as a hilarious series of paintings he only wants displayed at Whole Foods. This one made me laugh out loud, all alone.

Chris D'Elia: Incorrigible
Chris D'Elia is one of my favorites. I've watched his last two specials a couple of times through. He delivers here, again. Sometimes it's hard for a comic to get past a really really good, super quotable bit. For D'Elia this is his drunk girls bit; it is gold. And here, he manages to carry onward and upward.
Check out his sitcom Undatable. It's completely improvised and super funny.

Wyatt Cenac: Brooklyn
Oh man, Wyatt Cenac is on fire. I actually first came to know Cenac by way of his dramatic turn in Barry Jenkin's stellar Medicine 4 Melancholy. He went on to be a Daily Show correspondent, which is where you might know him from.
I highly recommend Brooklyn. Here, Cenac doesn't shy away from taking about race in America, and it's super refreshing and awesome.
